FRANCE DEPUTY MAYOR TO SPEAK AT 2024 ABF SUMMIT

The 2024 Africa Basketball Festival (ABF) is set to assemble ten (10) countries from Africa and beyond for 4days of basketball experience, fashion shows and musical performances hosted by University of Ghana from October 24-27, 2024.

This year’s festival starts with the maiden ABF Sports, Innovation and Entertainment Summit, a thought-leadership summit discussing the intersection of sports and technology, emerging trends in Esports, innovations and the business of sports and entertainment, social impact through sports, etc with the theme: Reimagining the Game: Shaping the Future of Sports, Innovation, and Entertainment happening on Thursday 24th October at the Great Hall, University of Ghana.

The Deputy Mayor of Strasbourg, France in Charge of Sports, Mr. Owusu Tufuor will speak on the topic “Social Impact Through Sports” where he will share with patrons how sports can drive social change and community development, examples of successful sports-based social impact programs and the role of athletes as influencers and community leaders.

The Deputy Mayor, known for championing youth and community development initiatives, is expected to explore how sports, especially basketball, can be leveraged to address some of the continent’s pressing social issues.

Other distinguished speakers will speak on topics including the economics of sports and entertainment – understanding the financial aspects and business models driving the industries, Evolution of Music in Sports – how music enhances the sports experience and its role in events, the future of Esports – exploring the rise of competitive gaming and its impact on traditional sport, etc.

The University of Ghana (UG) and Ghana Communication Technology University (GCTU) Men’s Basketball teams are gearing up for an exciting showdown as they prepare to participate in the 2024 Africa Basketball Festival. The game, set to take place on Sunday, October 27th, promises to be an electrifying clash that will highlight the passion and skills of university basketball teams in Ghana.

The University Contest, which has become a part of the annual Africa Basketball Festival, was introduced during the 2024 festival and saw University of Ghana losing to their archrivals Accra Technical University at Bukom Boxing Arena where the festival was held.

Speaking at the launch of the 2024 Africa Basketball Festival, Jones Kelvin Mensah the captain of University of Ghana Basketball team said “we lost to Accra Technical University last year because we were not mentally prepared, but this year will be different”

This year’s Africa Basketball Festival will bring together ten (10) countries of the best university basketball talent, showcasing the dynamic growth of the sport in Ghana and Africa at large. UG and GCTU are no strangers to high-stakes competition, both being prominent institutions known for their strong athletic programs. The teams have been training rigorously, and the players are eager to prove themselves on the continental stage.

The University of Ghana’s team has consistently shown dominance in the local basketball circuit, known for its solid defense, quick transitions, and versatile scoring options. AFRICA BASKETBALL FESTIVAL (ABF) LAUNCHES IN THE US

Organizers of the annual Africa Basketball Festival (ABF) are set to launch the festival in the United States this August, 2024 where they will outline plans to host mini-festivals in multiple cities in the US and a few other countries ahead of the 2025 festival in Ghana. The festival which brings together basketball teams from different countries to compete, showcases fashion brands and musical performances, aims to promote cultural exchange and foster international unity through sports and entertainment.

The Africa Basketball Festival (ABF) is the brainchild of RITE Sports, a Ghanaian sports marketing firm led by Yaw Sakyi Afari, a renowned sports marketer celebrated for changing the basketball narrative in Ghana through various programmes including the national High Schools competition dubbed Sprite Ball Championship, UPAC Basketball Championship for Tertiary institutions and NBA Africa partnered Clinics led by NBA Players. The ABF was held in 2019, 2022 and 2023 featuring basketball teams from Ghana, Nigeria, Togo, Liberia, USA and France as well as runway shows by Ghanaian fashion brands and top music performances by some of the finest artistes from Ghana, Nigeria and Zimbabwe.
